For a century and a half, Simmons has been shaping the world of bedding with a bold and visionary approach. A revolution in sleep (1870–1919)

The adventure began in 1870 in the United States, when Zalmon G. Simmons devised one of the first spring mattresses, combining a metal frame with layers of cotton. This pioneering concept revolutionised the way people slept. Simmons quickly perfected the Pocket spring, giving rise to the Quiétude suspension system, renowned for its ability to provide precise, personalised support.

In 1919, the Simmons company was officially founded. Thanks to the invention of the first industrial machine dedicated to pocket springs, manufacturing entered a new era, bringing an end to manual craftsmanship and ushering in large-scale production.

Simmons comfort becomes part of the art of living (1929–1958)

In 1929, the brand gained prestige by furnishing the cabins of the legendary ocean liners Le Normandie and Le France, symbols of French luxury. This iconic partnership cemented the brand’s place in the world of refinement and allowed many households to discover an unprecedented quality of sleep.

With the introduction of large-format mattresses in 1958, Simmons anticipated changes in lifestyle. This innovation also influenced the bed linen market, which had to adapt to these new dimensions. Simmons thus became a key player in the evolution of comfort standards.

Technological innovation at the heart of Simmons’ DNA (1999–2004)

In 1999, Simmons’ French subsidiary celebrated its 70th anniversary. This provided the brand with an opportunity to launch Fascination®, a premium model combining fine materials and advanced technology. This period was marked by a strong drive for innovation.

In 2001, Simmons introduced Duetto®, a suspension system offering high-definition comfort. Then, in 2004, it unveiled Sensoft®, a new generation of pocket springs designed for enhanced adaptability and durability.

A strong industrial footprint and exclusive technologies (2009–2014)

In 2009, Simmons strengthened its foothold in France with the opening of a new factory in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux. Three years later, the brand further modernised its collections with the introduction of the NO FLIP® system. This feature makes the mattress easier to use by eliminating the need to flip it.

In the same year, Simmons launched Fullsoft®, a patented suspension system that marked a new breakthrough in comfort.

In 2014, the brand consolidated its position as a leader in pocket springs with the Blacksoft suspension system and the launch of the Beautyrest Black range, a combination of technologies designed to deliver exceptional sleep.

A benchmark in night-time well-being (2018)

From 2018 onwards, Simmons reaffirmed its ambition to become more than just a manufacturer: a true specialist in Restorative sleep. Thanks to a perfect balance between technical innovations and traditional craftsmanship, the brand is committed to delivering superior quality nights’ sleep.

A responsible brand looking to the future (2021–2022)

Mindful of environmental issues, Simmons unveiled the Génération collection in 2021. It is made from recycled materials and designed to fit within a circular economy approach. By prioritising short supply chains and Made in France manufacturing, the brand reduces its carbon footprint whilst maintaining high standards of quality.

In 2022, the Adova Group, to which Simmons belongs, adopted the status of a mission-driven company. This change formalises the company’s commitment to a sustainable model, combining social responsibility with performance.

A sporting and human commitment to global well-being (2024)

In 2024, the brand supported Caroline Podlewski in her challenge for the Marathon Pour Tous, organised as part of the Paris Olympic Games. This initiative highlights the importance of quality sleep for physical and mental performance, and demonstrates the brand’s commitment to strong human values.

Every Simmons Mattress is entirely manufactured in France, in the brand’s workshops. The manual assembly, carried out with care by experienced craftsmen, reflects authentic craftsmanship and a deep respect for tradition.
